Caring for Your Belt Bag
Our belt bags are thoughtfully crafted for bold, adventurous living — whether you're exploring hiking trails, dancing at festivals, or simply embracing everyday journeys. With a little care, your bag will be a reliable companion for many years (and memories) to come.
Each piece is made using durable materials and strong construction, but like all cherished items, it will benefit from occasional care and attention. This simple care guide will help ensure your bag continues to look its best, function beautifully, and age with character and charm.
A Few Golden Rules Before You Begin
Avoid overstuffing the pockets – as tempting as it may be! Overloading your bag can put unnecessary strain on the stitching and may cause it to lose its shape over time.
Keep hardware dry – All our bags are designed with sturdy metal rivets and hardware. While built to last, exposure to moisture or chemicals (like lotions, perfumes, or cleaning sprays) can lead to tarnishing or rust. It's best to keep them dry and protected for long-lasting shine and durability.
1. Leather Care
Leather is one of our most cherished materials — not only for its strength and flexibility, but also for the beautiful character it develops over time. With each use, it softens and gains a rich patina that makes it uniquely yours.
- To clean, gently wipe with a soft, slightly damp cloth. If needed, use a small amount of leather-specific cleaner — but always do a patch test first.
- Avoid soaking or scrubbing. Let the leather air dry naturally, away from direct heat or sunlight.
- If the leather begins to feel dry, you may apply a small amount of leather balm or conditioner — use sparingly.
- Scratches or scuffs? Thanks to the natural oils in leather, many marks can be gently buffed out using your fingers or a soft cloth.
- And most importantly: leather is wonderfully repairable. Don’t hesitate to give it some extra care — or take it to a trusted local specialist for a little refresh when needed.
2. Leather
Our vegan leather bags are made from a durable coated fabric with a smooth, leather-like finish. While they’re designed to be tough, they do need a gentler approach than real leather.
- Wipe clean with a soft, damp cloth - warm water is best.
- Avoid harsh cleaning sprays, alcohol, or chemical solvents, which can crack or dry out the surface. Keep it dry and out of direct sunlight.
- Don’t use heat or hairdryers to dry vegan leather if it gets wet - just let it air dry.
- Store it somewhere cool and out of direct sunlight to avoid fading or warping.
- Treat it well, and your vegan leather bag will keep its shape and finish beautifully over time.
A Note on New-Bag Smell
Some leather bags may carry a light scent when they’re freshly made — this is completely normal and simply a result of the materials settling. It’s not harmful in any way, and the scent will naturally fade over time with regular use.
If you find the smell a little strong at first, we recommend placing your bag in a well-ventilated space, away from direct sunlight. This will help the scent to gently dissipate more quickly.
3. Canvas Cotton Belt Care
Canvas cotton is a wonderful choice for everyday wear — it’s strong, structured, and naturally breathable. However, like all fabrics, it benefits from gentle and mindful cleaning.
- To remove light surface marks, gently wipe with a soft, damp cloth.
- For a deeper clean, use lukewarm water with a small amount of mild soap. Blot the area carefully — **avoid rubbing or soaking the fabric.
- Allow the belt to air dry completely before wearing or storing it.
- If your canvas becomes dusty or sandy, a **soft brush can help remove debris before wiping it clean.
To preserve the integrity of the fabric and maintain its structure, please avoid using harsh detergents, **scrubbing, or **machine washing.
Belt Clips
When we first started creating belt bags, we used a traditional buckle and eyelet fastening. However, over time, we began to notice a few challenges:
- The strap material could stretch with regular use.
- The holes might widen, affecting the fit.
- And occasionally, the metal eyelets could pop out, making repairs tricky and often requiring a specialist.
Taking these experiences into account, we saw an opportunity to improve.
We developed a more reliable and durable fastening system — one that’s built to last, easy to use, and simpler to maintain.
Our Clip and Ring Fastening
Our clip and ring fastening system is designed with simplicity and durability in mind. There are:
- No eyelets to tear
- No buckles to break
- And nothing that requires special tools, tailoring, or leatherwork to repair
It’s strong, secure, and — best of all — **easy to replace if needed.
If your clip ever wears out or breaks, we offer replacement clips at cost price on our website. Simply slide off the old clip, **thread on the new one, and your bag is ready to go — complete with that beautiful, worn-in character that only develops over time.
Waterproofing
We don’t apply any waterproofing treatments to our bags, as many of our customers appreciate the natural finish and unique patina that develops beautifully over time with use.
That said, some customers do choose to waterproof their bags themselves — especially for leather and canvas styles — to better suit their lifestyle or climate.
While we can’t recommend specific brands or guarantee how a treatment might affect your bag’s material, it’s certainly an option you may wish to consider.
If you decide to do so, we recommend:
- Patch testing on a small, hidden area first.
- Using a product that is specifically formulated for the material your bag is made from.
